Last week, I had the pleasure of hosting a showcase put together by one of my friends "Theantisocial" who is also a rapper/performer in the DMV area. I was super nervous because it was my first time hosting a show, but my friend assured me that the experience would be positive either way, and it was.

It was a really intimate atmosphere with a small stage, so the audience was up close and personal with each artist's performance. The venue kind of felt like being in someone's living room, which is what made the performances so special. It's rare that when you go to shows that you feel like you're a part of the artist's act.

The show opened up with an amazing DJ set by @iamfranklin. The set was full of throwbacks and remixed classics. It was a great way to the ice and get the audience dancing and interacting with each other.

His set was so poppin' that I asked him for a copy of the song lists when his set was over lol. After he finished, there were performances by Louie Bagz, Briley Harris, NKOGIANI, Havana Seoul, 202 God, The Experience, Shaggy Peso, Arif Omari, and of course Theantisocial (all of their social media handles will be posted below).

I love being in environments where people are comfortable enough to be vulnerable and display their crafts. The performances were amazing and definitely gave insight into where the underground hip-hop scene in the DMV is heading. I had a great time and I'm very grateful to have been a part of this inspiring showcase. Make sure you check out these artists' music! Photography: Jesse Picasso @jessepicasso.
