If you google "hyperrealism" you will find several of Eloy's paintings chillin' in google images. Hyperrealism is a style of art in which the drawing or painting embodies a high-resolution photograph. Yes, very intense. I came across Eloy's paintings one day when I was scrolling on the "Popular" page on Instagram. I was completely amazed... to say the least. His paintings were so vivd and so realistic that I just was in awe of his genius, especially since I've dabbled in photo-realism this year in my art class and can't even imagine being near his level. I just couldn't stop thinking... "how can someone create such an image by hand." The ability to recognize and portray such minute detail is truly a gift.
Eloy's artwork has been featured all over the world including Germany, Korea, China, and his home country of Spain. So amazing. I was so excited to have the chance to exchange a few words with Eloy across the Atlantic. The conversation was in Spanish, so the translation is not exact. Enjoy the mini-interview and his unbelievable artwork!
How would you describe your style? The style changes over time. As you get older, your interests in general change. I have always felt a great attraction to the visual, to the image, as a child. I do not like labels, but if I had to define myself I would say I am a figurative painter.
How many years have you been painting? Drawing since I was four and started painting with oil when I was nine. I just turned forty.
Do you think you have perfected your style? Any words of wisdom? As I said before, I think the style is or should be subject to constant change even within the margins. Not if you've perfected your style, but what I have clear is that I have not achieved what I want as a painter. But that is precisely the trait that motivates me more in this profession, the uncertainty of not knowing everything.
